Design Features

The Journey of our Cotton Stripe Ada Jumper

Design

As a knitwear graduate of Glasgow School of Art, Antoinette is hugely obsessive about fabulous knitwear. For Ada, our design journey starts by collaborating with the design team at the factory to identify their surplus yarn supply. We use the most high-end, luxury yarns to create our premium knitwear. Ada is designed to frame the face, highlighting the smallest part of the female form—the wrist. The sleeves divert focus from the chest and bust and can be worn in three different ways.

Sustainable Circular Sourcing

Similar to all products in our collection, for Ada, we focus on putting people and the planet first. We sourced the yarns from discarded materials, using a technique known as design-led remanufacturing and reverse resources. This practice prevents products from being discarded in landfills, enabling us to maximise their resource value.

Ethical Manufacturing

Antoinette was delighted to replicate our circular sourcing model, which was developed in Italy, with Sun Hing. It is not an easy task to find suppliers willing to explore different means of producing more sustainably. We believe you cannot be sustainable unless you pay people properly. We provide full disclosure on our supply chain and wages. We are proud to work with Sun Hing, which pays its garment workers a living wage.

How we put people and planet first in the making of our Cotton Stripe Ada Jumper

    Our Italian circular economy model is now being replicated in Hong Kong/China for our knitwear, resulting in considerable savings in waste, the utilisation of manufacturers' downtime, job support, and fair compensation for those employed. The product is then shipped to our store by boat to minimise carbon emissions. The circular sourcing model has provided a 60% reduction in CO2.

    We use manufacturers' downtime to create jobs in the area, ensuring fair compensation. This manufacturer is transparent in their operations and pays their employees above a living wage. Complete with a state-of-the-art workplace and machinery, these artisans boast decades of expertise.

    We take pride in the artisans responsible for the production of our garments. They are paid above a living wage for their work, ensuring an ethical supply chain. Our business model focuses on addressing waste at the garment production stage. We also use ‘slow’ and more sustainable shipping methods.

    We are delighted to share the full process with the customer and all our actions with our manufacturers. We are transparent about what our employees get paid, where our products are made, and what we charge for them. We believe you cannot be sustainable and ethical without being transparent. The traditional retail markup price of £336 versus our honest price of £180.
